10 Easy Ways To Show Gratitude Towards God
What are you grateful for? Is it the family and friends that you have? The things that are going well in your life? For me, I am so grateful to God for His unconditional, everlasting love, grace and mercy. He has given me a second chance; I have been made anew. My sins have been forgiven and washed away with the blood that Jesus shed on the cross for me. This is what I am grateful for.
You’re probably wondering that practicing gratitude is easier said than done, right? With all that is happening in our lives and in this world, we might not always seem like feeling grateful for what we have. I understand. I totally get that. It doesn’t always have to be this way though.
What Is Gratitude?
Simply put gratitude is about feeling thankful for and appreciative of what we have in our lives. There is more to it than meets the eye, though. Gratitude is about sharing an emotional response to receiving something such as a gift, help, or kindness from others.
Why Is It So Important?
Gratitude makes us resilient and helps us grow stronger in our relationships with others such as family and friends. Practicing gratitude makes us healthier as it allows us to sleep better, deal with anxiety and stress and allows us to be more productive each day. Most importantly as Christians, practicing gratitude helps us to grow stronger in the faith and strengthen our relationship with God.
How To Give Gratitude To God
When you think about all that you have in your life, God has given us all of this. God has given us so much and this is why we need to show gratitude towards Him. I do not believe that many Christians show enough appreciation towards God for all that He has done for them and given them. I mean, do you practice gratitude towards God every day? Do you thank Him always?
This is why I am writing about this. We need to humble ourselves and start showing more gratitude and thankfulness towards our Creator. After all, He is the one who gave us this life and these opportunities that go with it. God is showing us His love and kindness towards us through so much that He provides for us such as listening to and answering our prayers, providing us with a perfect manual on how to live our lives, allowing us to have God-given freedoms, and protecting us from all evil, and most importantly, the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ Our Lord.
So when we reflect upon and take into account all that God has done for us, this is exactly why we need to show gratitude towards Him. How can we do this? Let’s take a look at 10 easy ways to show gratitude towards God:
1. Studying/Reading The Bible
“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope” (Romans 15:4).
First and foremost, we should be studying and reading the Bible daily. God has provided us the perfect tool on how to live our lives and understand who He is and how to worship Him. If we are stuck, or struggling, or unsure of things, we can turn to His Word to find the answers. Be thankful to God for His word and your ability to read and understand it (through the Holy Spirit). Check out these encouraging scriptures here.
2. Prayer
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Philippians 4:6).
God has given us the perfect way to communicate with Him which is via prayer. Praying is the direct communication between us and Him and it allows us to strengthen our faith in Him. This is such a great way to show gratitude towards God by thanking Him for all that He has given you as well as showing appreciation towards Him hearing and answering your prayers. That is why there are several scriptures that state to stay in prayer, and pray without ceasing. When you take a look at Philippians 4:6, it states that we should be giving thanks to God in all that we pray about and let all of our requests be made known to Him.
3. Worship/Attending Church
“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him” (John 4:23).
Do you attend Church? If you don’t, that’s okay. We can worship God in so many different ways aside from attending Church. After all, we as Christians, ARE the church. When we are worshipping God, we are focusing our minds on how good He is and all that He has done and continues to do for us. This is a beautiful way to show gratitude towards our Heavenly Father.
4. Practice Journaling
“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
Journaling is one of the most common ways to practice gratitude. It allows us to pour out onto paper all that is on our minds. You can start practicing journaling by waking up each morning and writing down what you are grateful to God for that day. Then you can meditate on what you have written and let those grateful moments fill your mind and guide you on how you will spend the rest of the day. It’s always a great start to the day when you have a grateful mind, heart and soul.
5. Serving + Loving Others
“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another” (John 13:34).
We can show gratitude towards God by serving and loving others. This is when we can help out others who are in need such as volunteer work, donating to charity and so on. We want to share the same level of love, kindness and support that God gives to us, onto others.
6. Glorifying God
Glorify God in all that you do. Let this be the foundation for your actions and your words. By glorifying Him in our mannerisms, we are expressing our thankfulness towards Him, because we love Him and want to serve Him.
7. Doing God’s Will
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5).
When we submit to God, take up our cross and follow Him, we are focusing on all that He wants us to do in our lives. Following God’s Will allows us to show gratitude towards this new life that He has given us, and gives us the opportunity to become closer to Him. We are in this world, but are not of this world. We need to show more appreciation towards the promises that God has for us, and the life that He has paved out for us to live in.
8. Preaching To Others
“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15).
Jesus commanded us to go into the world and preach unto every creature. He wants us to spread the good news and help others see the truth of God and the Bible. Through this, we are thanking God for all that He has done for us, for opening up our eyes to see the truth and to believe in the goodness of His son, Jesus. We want others to see and feel the way that we do!
9. Song/Music & Dance
“Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp” (Psalm 149:3).
Have you ever listened to worship music and just wanted to put your hands up and praise God endlessly? Do you ever feel the Holy Spirit burning inside of you and just want to let His glory shine brighter through song and dance? Take a look at the Book of Psalms; they are all songs written by King David. We can glorify God and show gratitude towards Him in song and music, and dance too (Psalm 149:3; Ecclsiastes 3:4; Psalm 150:4; Psalm 30:11).
10. Embracing God’s Grace & Love
“We love him, because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19).
Last, but not least, embracing God’s grace and love for us in all that we do, think and say is showing God how much He means to us. We love Him because He loved us first. We embrace His unconditional love and grace because of all that He has done for us.
There are so many beautiful and wonderful ways to give gratitude towards God. Being grateful towards God allows us to humble ourselves and show more appreciation towards all that He has given us and done for us, rather than dwelling on what we don’t have or desire what we shouldn’t have. When Jesus came to earth, He did everything in accordance to God’s Will. In all that He did and said was to glorify Him. We need to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and put God first. God must increase and we must decrease. Which is your favorite way to show gratitude towards God?

I remember the first time I realized that my actions had the ability to bless God- it blew me away. Just like a good dad takes pleasure in their children obeying and making good choices- God feels the same.

So many of these things are not just one-time offers of gratitude but rather the direction of our life. As we spend time focusing on what God has done for us, we will naturally see more and more of what He does which should result in abundant gratitude.

Thankyou for sharing.
I have many children and give them all their life maual instructions. It’s up to them to take them or leave them or take some and leave some. But they don’t know that in the background, I am blessing those that are obedient to my instructions of dos and do nots of life. .My own analogy to what God does to those who obey. He clothes them with Dignity! What a theme! Thankyou.
For me I have great love to worship this loving and gracious God in deep piano worship music. Any friends out there with deep piano meditation and worship music, please share.
Thankyou all and it’s Goodmorning from Papua New Guinea.
