12 Wonderful Desires God Has For Women
I was recently thinking about the journey that I am on as a Christian and it got me thinking about what God’s Will and desires are for me in my life. God created each and every one of us with a unique purpose and plan. We are all created in the image of God and are here to glorify Him.
The Bible talks about many different attributes of a Godly woman, and through these attributes are essentially the desires God has for women on how we are to live our lives.
Although we are in the world, we are not of this world. We were made to be set apart. The world does not and should not influence the way we are to be as women in this world. The Bible is our resource and guideline for how to act as Christian women.
Many of the different attributes of a Godly woman are found in Proverbs 31. For many of us, we strive to become more of a Proverbs 31 woman in our lives. From being a good wife, loving mother and faithful servant of Jesus to being a kind, gentle-spirited woman of God who serves others.
What are these desires that God has for Women?
When you think about the desires God has for women, you tend to think about the Proverbs 31 woman. When looking at the attributes of a Proverbs 31 woman, it gives us women a better understanding of how to become a more well-rounded, Godly woman. We are designed to get married, have children and run a household. We are to submit to our Husband, have Christ as the head of the household, go to Church, be involved in ministry and serve others in the community.
God does not desire us to be angry, bitter, brawling, domineering or hostile towards others, especially our husband/family.
“It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house” – Proverbs 21:9
We are to present ourselves in a way that represents Christ. We are women, and should be dressing and acting feminine. Society will have you think that dressing, acting or talking a certain way is how women are to be, but the Bible tells us to dress modestly (1 Timothy 2:9-10), gentle, kind (Proverbs 31:26), and slow to anger (James 1:19). We don’t need to care about our outward appearances. Although wearing jewelry and makeup isn’t necessarily bad or unbiblical, the main focus is on the inside.
The world will tell you that it is okay for women to dress provocatively, showing lots of skin, caring more about yourself and following what the world has to offer, rather than submitting to God and letting Him guide you on how to live your life.
God has all of the answers in His Word, especially on how to be as Godly women in this ungodly world. So let’s take a look at the many different desires God has for women.
12 Desires God Has For Women
-
To Have a Gentle, Meek Spirit
“Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price” – 1 Peter 3:3-4
It is God’s desire for women to have a gentle, meek spirit. Rather than being loud, aggressive and in your face, He wants us to act womanly. To be softly spoken, gentle with our words, gestures and mannerisms. And to care more about what is on the inside, rather than what we wear on the outside.
2. To Be Kind/Considerate of Others
“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you” – Ephesians 4:31-32
It is so important for Christians to be kind and considerate of one another. We need to be mindful of how we treat and talk to others. Be nice, kind, loving, and not mean or hostile or aggressive towards others.
3. To Be Loving Towards Others
“And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself” – Luke 10:27
One of the greatest commandments that God has given us all is to love our neighbors as ourselves. We represent the body of Christ, and as such, we need to show Godly love towards our brethren, and being loving and kind towards our neighbors. In both our words and actions, God desires us to share the love of Christ with others. For many people, they will never open the Bible or even truly earn about God’s love for us, and so if we can just be the light of Christ, shining in the darkness and loving our neighbors, that is such a wonderful thing to do.
4. To Be Faithful to God
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” – Proverbs 3:5-6
God is always faithful to us. He keeps His Word/promises and will never leave us nor forsake us. There are so many desires and plans that God has set up for us, and He loves it when His children are fully committed to Him and are faithful to Him. So what does this mean? To not fall into the temptation of sin. To not be backslidden. To follow God, trusting Him completely and putting Him first above all else.
5. To Only Seek Wisdom from The Lord (and not this world)
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” – James 1:5
True wisdom comes from God. In order to seek His wisdom, we must fear the Lord.
There is no kind of ‘wisdom’ or understanding in this world that will help you grow closer to God, or understand His Ways. The world is in opposition to God and the Bible. That is why we need to seek God first, fear Him and ask for wisdom and understanding from God, in our lives.
And another important thing about asking wisdom is willing to accept correction and guidance, too (Proverbs 1:7).
6. To Always Grow and Mature in the Faith
God desires for us to grow in the faith. When we first get saved, we are babes in Christ and are given milk. When we grow up in the faith and become more mature, we start to understand the more meaty parts of the scriptures. Being idle isn’t going to get you anywhere.
The Christian walk is an everlasting journey with our Lord and Savior. You can either keep on cruising along, not wanting to really read the Bible or learn more about God, or you can pray for guidance through the Holy Spirit to truly dig deep into His Word and seek wisdom and understanding from the Lord.
You can either let the flesh dictate your life, or you can walk in the spirit, denying the desires of the flesh and actively want to remove sin, temptations and the like from your life as you mature and get closer to God.
That is what He wants from us – to get closer to Him and trust Him completely. To walk in the Spirit, winning those spiritual battles, and not be tempted by sin, denying the desires of the flesh.
7. To Be An Example For Younger Women
“The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed” – Titus 2:3-5
If you are an older Christian woman, then younger Christians might look up to you. Being such a good example/role model for the younger generations is important in the Church. In Titus 2, it talks about the older women teaching the younger women how to be sober, loving and caring towards their husband and children, keepers of the home etc.
8. To Raise Godly Children
“Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it” – Proverbs 22:6
God designed women to have children. It may not be in everybody’s plans to have children, but it is a desire of God for us to have a family on earth.
When we have children, it is of uttermost importance to raise them up right in the Lord. We have a duty as Christian parents to raise our children right. There are many scriptures in Proverbs, for example, that talk about raising children and discipline etc.
9. To Be a Homemaker, Wife, Mother
” Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward” – Psalm 127:3
This might not be part of everybody’s plan for their lives, but like I said before, God has designed us women to get married, have children and be a homemaker. He desires us to be a wife, a mother and a homemaker. It is such a beautiful opportunity to have as a Christian woman. It will be the most important job you will have, too.
The world will have you think that settling down, getting married and starting a family can wait (or not need to happen at all) and that women should focus on their careers, becoming a “boss babe”, ‘having it all’, so to speak.
There is nothing wrong with women working. There is nothing wrong with women not wanting to have children or even get married.
But we are talking about overall desires that God has for women. We are talking about His perfect design for His creation.
10. To Be Filled With Joy and Hope
“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost” – Romans 15:13
God doesn’t us to be depressed, or to live in the miseries. He doesn’t want us to be filled with anxiety, or fear. Fear is not from God, it is from the devil.
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” – 2 Timothy 1:7
God wants us women to be filled with joy and hope; to not be afraid of the future (Proverbs 31:25).
No matter what you are going through, God is always with you. He will always be there for you. God will always help and support you, especially when you are struggling, going through hardships and trials.
The Book of Philippians is often known as the “epistle of joy” and yet it was written by Paul whilst he was in prison. Even though Paul was locked away, it didn’t stop him from being filled with joy and hope from the Lord, because faith is more important than entertaining dark, negative thoughts and emotions (despite what kind of situation you are in).
11. To Not Gossip
“A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter” – Proverbs 11:13
This might be a hard one to give up because women live to gossip, and spill the tea. But did you know that gossiping is a sin? God doesn’t want us to be gossiping or bickering with others about other women.
We shouldn’t be putting others down, or spreading things about other women, but rather, lifting them up (especially in prayer!)
12. To Not Be Envious of Others
“A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones” – Proverbs 14:30
“Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long” – Proverbs 23:17
One of the 10 commandments is to not covet. To covet means to yearn or desire to have something that somebody else has. So in the 10 commandments, God said in Exodus 20:17, “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s”. So when we see our neighbors with the spouse, or house, or car, or job or whatever it is that we want, or we desire, we shouldn’t yearn to take that from them, or to be envious of their life or what they have.
What God has for you, is for YOU. He always delivers on His promises. So don’t be stuck in the mindset of desperately wanting the life that somebody else has, or the things that they have but you don’t. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side; the grass is greener where you water it.
Focus on your life, and give everything to God in prayer. If you aren’t married yet and desire to get married someday, then pray on it. If you don’t have the job you want, or a house, or car or whatever it is, then give it all to God in prayer. Allow His Will to be done in YOUR life.
God’s Ways Are Perfect
We serve an amazing, perfect God who created us with such care, and precision. He knows every single thing about us – He counts the very hairs on our head. When He created us, He set up a perfect plan and purpose for us. And when God created women, He specifically designed us to do things that men cannot. And these designs are part of His desires for us in our lives – from getting married and having children, being a homemaker to adorning ourselves with a gentle spirit, modest look and kind, joyful attitude towards others.
God loves you and cares for you. If you are saved, then you are His child. His ways are perfect and are always going to be better than any ways that we choose to go, or decisions that we make in our lives. Submit to Him and trust Him, always. God’s ways are perfect. The desires God has for women is perfect.
