13 Inspiring Fathers In The Bible
Father’s Day is coming up next month and I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you some inspiring fathers in the Bible. These men were faithful, obedient, strong, bold servants of God and give us such great encouragement for how Christian dads are to be. Essentially, these fathers are our role models.
When we think about these fathers in the Bible as our role models, it should inspire us to become more like how they were, and less like worldly men. There are too many negative influences in this world, even for men, for how we are supposed to look, act, think, behave and dress. There is such an attack on masculinity and men being masculine. Society is trying to deem it as “toxic” and is pushing for men to become more submissive, beta, and ungodly role models in our society.
That is why we shouldn’t focus on what the world has to say about us. We need to focus on what God tells us in His Word. God shows us how our men are to be, act, dress and behave in this world. Throughout these many examples of fathers in the Bible that I will share, give us a better understanding of how important true masculinity is and why we need our men to be masculine, and not weak, submissive, beta individuals. We want men who will stand up for us, support us, protect us, and follow God’s Word to make sure that our families don’t crumble. If we give an inch, the devil will take a mile. A strong, Godly, masculine man in our homes, in our lives, is vital.
This is such a great reminder that God’s Word is so powerful and so insightful. He has given us a chance to better understand Godly men that have lived throughout history. God gives us role models to look up to, and be encouraged by.

SO, WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT THESE 13 INSPIRING FATHERS IN THE BIBLE:
Fathers In The Bible In The Old Testament:
-
Adam – The First Man
Adam was the first man to ever be created by God, and to live on this Earth. He was also the first father (to Cain and Abel and many other children thereafter), and husband (to Eve). Adam represents the first human who was created in the image of God. He was God’s first masterpiece. Adam also dealt with the first loss of a child (Abel). Through the actions of Cain, it shows us how important it is to follow and obey God.
2. Noah – A Brave Man
The story of Noah and the flood is a classic one at that. The story depicts a man who was able to change God’s mind when He wanted to destroy the Earth and everything on it, with the flood. Noah showed favor in God’s eyes, and as a result, him, his family, and a whole bunch of different animals, were saved from the flood.
Before any drops of rain, Noah was already faithful to God and was building the ark for his family and the animals, to go in to. Noah was brave in his commitments to fulfilling God’s task.
We all fall short of the glory of God. No one is perfect. But God wants us to have complete faith and trust in Him alone. He wants us to obey Him and to follow His Will. Noah did exactly that. When everyone else was continuing in their wickedness, Noah and his family remained faithful to God and was protected from the flood.
3. Abraham – The Father Of Many Nations
Abraham was married to Sarah who was barren for a long time. He was given Hagaar, Sarah’s maiden, to be with (and she conceived and had Ishmael). When Abraham and Sarah were in old age, God sent three angels to visit them, and remind them of God’s promise to Abraham, which was that he was going to be a father of many nations.
When Sarah conceived and had Isaac, God told Abraham to go and sacrifice Isaac on the altar. This was such a powerful test of his faith, because Abraham was ready and about to sacrifice Isaac, when an angel of God told Abraham to stop.
Everything happens in God’s perfect timing. Through years of faith and obedience to God, Abraham saw his promises from God pan out.
4. Isaac – The Son Of Abraham
Isaac was an obedient son to Abraham. He went along with the almost sacrifice of himself when Abraham took him up to the mountains to sacrifice him to God. Through this experience, he learned to trust God.
Isaac was the answer to Abraham’s prayers.
He married Rebekah and they had the twins: Esau and Jacob.
5. Jacob – Israel: The Father Of The Twelve Tribes
Jacob, who was the younger twin to Esau, would choose to do things his own way, such as getting Esau to buy his birthright and stealing Esau’s blessing from Isaac their father. In spite of being disobedient to God, it actually all turned around and worked out for God’s glory because it was Jacob who was to become Israel, and thus, the father of many nations. God will always find a way for His plan to come to pass. He wants us to trust Him.
6. Joseph – Hated By His Brothers
Jacob favored his son Joseph, which caused a lot of strive between the brothers. But all in all, we see a great ending to this. Joseph’s brothers devised a scheme to sell off Joseph to the Egyptians as a slave. After years of imprisonment, everything turned around for Joseph when he was able to help Pharaoh interpret his dreams. He became the ruler of Egypt and was given Asenath the daughter of Potipherah (priest of On) to wife. Joseph and his wife had two sons: Manasseh and Ephraim.
Because Joseph was able to interpret dreams, he was given a heads up of the famine in the land. Back home where Joseph’s brothers, and father, Jacob, were, they were struggling with the famine in the land and organized the brothers to go to Egypt to buy food.
Joseph had prepared everyone in Egypt for the many years of famine, by saving their crops and many other foods beforehand. He was able to see his brothers again, and sell food to them in order for them to survive the famine. God can always overturn bad into good.
7. Moses – The Lawgiver
The story of Moses is a wonderful and powerful story. He was chosen by God to lead His people out of Egypt. Moses relationship with God was so close that He saw God’s behind. Moses was chosen to share the commandments/laws with the Israelites and lead them through the wilderness, and everywhere else that they journeyed to.
Moses was more than a leader though. He was also a father. He married Zipporah (the daughter of Jethro, the Midianite) and had two sons: Gershom and Eliezer.
He was also a father figure to the Israelites when they escaped Egypt. Moses’s story shows us that there is nothing that is impossible with God. Even with extreme, overwhelming challenges that we may face, it can all be achieved when we remain faithful to God.
8. King David – A Man After God’s Heart
God loved David and saw him as perfect. David had so much faith in God and we can see it when we read the story of David vs Goliath. This story illustrates the importance of having complete and utter faith and trust in God alone to fight our battles. Instead of focusing on the goliaths in front of us, we should we focusing on God, who tells us that He will be there for us and will fight for us.
Even when David sinned and ran away from King Saul, Jonathan (King Saul’s son) went after him and told him to repent, so he did. God forgave him, because His mercy and forgiveness is far greater than we can ever truly comprehend. God wants our hearts and He wants us to recognize when we have sinned and to come to repentance.
King David had a son named Solomon who became one of the greatest kings and wisest men to ever live.
9. King Solomon – The Wisest Man
Solomon wasn’t the greatest father or man, for a long while. His sons turned away from him because of how horrible of a father he was. There were many lessons that he had learned in his life, which gave him a lot of wisdom and understanding. He soon became one of, if not, the wisest man that ever lived, and wrote his wisdom in the Book of Proverbs.
No one is perfect, but something that we can learn from Solomon is that being a good father to our children IS important. We don’t want our children to turn away from us, and fall into the trap of being led astray. We are our children’s examples of how they are to be in this world. We need to remain faithful to God, and lean on Him for understanding, especially when it comes to parenting our children.
10. Job – A Man Of Great Faith
Job was a wealthy man who had a lot of land with many crops and cattle. He was also blessed with several children (7 sons and 3 daughters). He went through a lot of hardships, one of them being the loss of his children in a storm. Job remained faithful to God during this time, and as a result, was blessed with 10 more children.
Job went through so much in his life, but what I want to point out is the faith that he had for God, and the endurance throughout these trials and hardships, especially when losing his children.
Fathers In The Bible In The New Testament:
11. Zacharias – The Father Of John The Baptist
Zacharias was the father of John the Baptist, and a priest of Abia. When Zacharias was praying in the temple and offering incense, an angel of God (Gabriel) appeared to him and told him the promise of his son. Zacharias could not believe what Gabriel had told him, because both himself and Elizabeth were of old age. Because of this, he became mute and was unable to speak until this prophecy was to be fulfilled.
When Elizabeth gave birth to their son, they were going to called him Zacharias, after his father, but Zacharias wrote on a tablet that the son’s name would be called John. Zacharias was then able to speak again, and started praising God.
12. Joseph – Jesus’s Dad
Although Joseph wasn’t the birth father of Jesus, he still was a father-figure to Jesus growing up. Joseph protected his wife Mary, and their baby when she was pregnant/giving birth to him. Joseph was also a carpenter and taught Jesus the trade. Joseph was a man of integrity and that is something that God honored.
The Most Important Out Of All The Fathers In The Bible:
13. God – Our Heavenly Father
Last, but not least, is our Creator: God. God is our Heavenly Father and serves as one especially to those who are without a father or father-figure in their lives. God created us, and knows everything about us: past, present and future. He knows what is best for us and will protect us and look after us, always. God loves us so much that He sent His one and only son, Jesus, into the world to become the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, and the sins of the whole world.
God demonstrates to us how to be as a Christian, as a father to our children, and as a strong, faithful, obedient servant.

Yes absolutely!
God is the source of all things great and good in this world. It is but fitting to draw inspiration from Him.
You are right! There are so many negative examples nowadays that perhaps we should look to the past more often and find real role models.
I agree the most important father is god. He’s the creator of all things. Inspiring post that reminds us of how many times we have to be thankful for.
This is so inspirational! I want to commend all father all over the world and give them a hug!

Love this! I just read The Book of Longing and it does a REALLY great job personifying Mary, Joseph, Jesus, Judas, etc… and Joseph was such an inspiration as a father figure.
