Mother’s Day is next month and I thought that I would spend this time by sharing lots of different Bible verses to encourage you on your walk with Christ, especially as a mother in the faith. I am a single mom, and I know that putting God first in my life has given me such great strength and courage when it comes to raising my child, and living my life the way that God intended for me to live.
We are all created with a unique purpose and as mothers, one of our main purposes is to raise up our children in The Lord. When we put God first, at the head of our household, our influence and focus shifts from that of the world, to that of The Word. When we fully submit to God and obey Him, our lives change for the better. We, as Christians, must follow God in all that we do, and allow Him to guide us on the right path; on the straight and narrow. When it comes to our children, we must raise them in the right way, the Biblical way, and encourage them to follow God, too.
I pray that you have a wonderful Mother’s Day with your family and that you are encouraged by these Bible verses I have shared here:
Bible Verses For Mother’s Day In The Old Testament:
- Genesis 3:20 – “And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living”.
- Exodus 14:14 – “The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace”.
- Deuteronomy 4:9-10 – “Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons; Specially the day that thou stoodest before the Lord thy God in Horeb, when the Lord said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children”.
- Deuteronomy 5:16 – “Honour thy father and thy mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee”.
- Deuteronomy 6:6-7 – “And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up”.
- 1 Kings 3:16-28 – In these scriptures, we read the story about two mothers who lived together and both had a baby. Unfortunately one of the babies had died in their sleep and so one of the mothers swapped the babies so that the other mother would awake to find the dead baby in her arms. They went before King Solomon to fight over whose baby it was. King Solomon decided to take a sword and split the baby in half, so that way, the mother’s would have half a baby each. One of the mother’s thought that that was a great idea. But the true mother of the baby said, no! don’t do that! Give that baby to her!
King Solomon knew who the real mother was. This story gives us a powerful representation of true mother’s love for her child. She loved the baby so much that she would rather him be alive, and given to the other mother, than to have him split in half.
- Psalm 28:7 – “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him”.
- Psalm 113:9 – “He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord”.
- Psalm 127:3 – “Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward”.
- Psalm 128:1-6 – “Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways. For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee. Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord. The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life. Yea, thou shalt see thy children’s children, and peace upon Israel”.
- Psalm 131:2 – “Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child”.
- Psalm 139:13-14 – “For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well”.
- Psalm 143:8 – “Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee”.
- Proverbs 4:23 – “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life”.
- Proverbs 5:18 – “Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth”.
- Proverbs 14:1 – “Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands”.
- Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it”.
- Proverbs 23:22-25 – “Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old. Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice”.
- Proverbs 24:3 – “Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:”.
- Proverbs 31:10-31 – “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates”.
- Isaiah 40:31 – “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint”.
- Isaiah 41:13 – “For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee”.
- Isaiah 66:13 – “As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem”.
- Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end”.
- Lamentations 3:22-23 – “It is of the Lord‘s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness”.

34. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 – “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away”.
35. 1 Corinthians 13:13 – “And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity”.
36. 1 Corinthians 16:14 – “Let all your things be done with charity”.
37. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 – “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God”.

41. Ephesians 6:10-13 – “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand”.
42. Philippians 2:14-15 – “Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;”
43. Philippians 4:6-8 – “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things”.
44. Colossians 3:24 – “Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ”.

47. Titus 2:3-5 – “The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed”.
48. James 1:19 – “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:”
49. 1 Peter 3:1-6 – “Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement”.
