7 Simple Spiritual Growth Tips For Busy Christian Moms
I have truly been blessed this year with spiritual growth. It has taken a complete change in my mindset to really dive deep into the Word of God and actively want to grow and mature in the faith. It takes discipline and commitment to want to be able to grow closer to God.
As a single mom myself, I find it hard sometimes to spend proper time with God. One of the things I really am working on this year is hearing more from God. One of the ways to do this is to be still. But when there’s always things happening in your life or you’re busy with chores or tending to your children, it is hard to find time where there is peace and quiet so that you can be still and listen to what God has to say to you.
This is where discipline and commitment comes in. If you want to spiritually grow in the faith, then you really need to find a good amount of time in the day to spend with the Lord.
What Does Spiritual Growth Look Like?
Spiritual growth is more than just reading your Bible, going to Church and praying to God. It isn’t something where you tick off things on a list to say that you spent time with God that day. It is a passion and desire of yours to want to learn more about who God is and hear from Him. You want to do His Will in your life each day. The choices you make, the thoughts you have all compliment what God’s plan and purpose is for you in your life.
It is also about having a strong, Christ-centered mindset. Not entertaining negative thoughts or feelings; casting down those imaginations and making those thoughts submit to the obedience of Christ.
It is also about letting God guide you on the right path each day. Denying the desires of the flesh and actively putting on the new man each day and walking in the spirit, on the straight and narrow.
The Importance of Growing in the Faith
Yes, going to Church, praying to God, and reading your Bible are fantastic ways to grow in the faith. But it is about your attitude and mindset towards it all.
For example, why do you go to Church? To get a feeling? Or to honor and glorify God… For me, I go to Church because I want to hear from God through the Pastor’s preaching and actually learn something that I can put into practice in my life. I sing the hymns because I want to worship the Lord. And I serve at the Church for His glory and not my own personal intentions.
When you read the Bible, are you asking God to fill you with His Spirit and seeking understanding and wisdom from the scriptures? Or are you just reading it to tick a box or complete a ‘Read the Bible in a Year’ type challenge?
The Word of God is alive. Jesus Christ IS the Word. When you are reading the scriptures, you are hearing directly from God. So make the most out of each Bible reading session you have.
7 Simple Spiritual Growth Tips For Busy Christian Moms
Let’s take a look at some simple but effective spiritual growth tips that you can put into practice each day in your busy routines.

Stay In Prayer Throughout The Day
When we pray to God, it doesn’t have to be perfect or scripted; He is always here, ready to listen. God already knows what you want to pray about before you say it. He knows our thoughts and the thoughts of our thoughts. You can talk to Him like you would any one else. And knowing that is such a game changer to your prayer life. Talk to Him all the time, every day. Whether it is out aloud, or in your head. God is omnipresent – He is always there for you.
If you ever struggle with the right words to say, praise God for the Holy Spirit who can intercede for you. Because even when you are upset or overwhelmed and lost for words, the Holy Spirit will speak for you.
“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for” (Romans 8:26)
2. Read the Bible Each Day With Intent
Wake up each morning, earlier than usual even, and make time to read the Bible before you start your day. That is the BEST thing that you can do for spiritual growth- starting off your day strong with The Word. But pray before you read the scriptures. Ask for God to fill you with His spirit and give you His wisdom and understanding. Ask to hear from Him each day through His Word.
3. Go to Church to Worship God and Serve
Go to a good Bible-believing Church each Sunday to worship God. Don’t go there purely for the fellowship, or solely to get a feeling. You are in the House of God. You are in the Lord’s presence. Glorify and honor Him with intent. Find ways to serve at the Church for His glory.
4. Listen to the Audio Bible/Sermons/Worship Music on the Go
I get that life gets pretty hectic as moms. Listening to the audio Bible, or listening to sermons or worship music on the go is the best thing! Whether you are driving someplace, or in the kitchen making dinner, put on that playlist. Re-listen to Sunday’s sermon. Do it because you want to spend time with God and grow in the faith.
5. Get Disciplined
Like I said before, it takes discipline and commitment to want to spiritually grow as a Christian. And although our lives get busy, especially for us moms, we still need to make God a priority. He shouldn’t be shoved into our daily routines somewhere for 5 mins. We need to truly spend more time with Him in more ways than one. Find other ways to spend more time with God – here are 23 examples of how to spend more time with God.
6. Surround Yourself With Others On The Same Path As You
The people you surround yourself around WILL definitely influence you, especially spiritually speaking. When you go to Church, fellowship time is so important and if you want that to continue throughout the week, make sure the right people are in your life. If you want to grow and mature in the faith, learn more about the Bible and God’s Will for your life, then you need to connect with those who will support you and encourage you and lift you up.
7. Daily Devotions
I am so thankful that I have found some daily devotions that I can work on each day. There is a JESUS challenge on TikTok where you spend an hour each day journaling, studying a scripture, being still listening to God, and understanding/writing about that scripture for the day, followed by a summary of this time spent in prayer. I also have other daily devotions that I listen to at night. You can find whatever suits you best. The JESUS challenge is a great one.
I know that 1 hour sounds like a lot when you put it into perspective and look over how your daily routines are. But, even if you break it up doing it bit by bit in the day (which is what I do), it definitely helps. Find something that will challenge you, excite you, and encourage you to spend more time with God.
I pray that these spiritual growth tips will encourage you to get closer to God!
Here are some devotions I have created to help your spiritual growth.
Stay encouraged,
God Bless.
