How To Become A Strong Woman of God
As we finish yet another year and get ready for a new one, I want to take the time to talk about how to become a strong, faithful woman of God (especially if this is a goal of yours for the new year!) Being a strong, faithful woman of God isn’t something that we become overnight. The Christian walk is an uphill battle. It isn’t an easy life. But it is definitely worth being a child of God.
We cannot depend upon our own strength in this world; we have to solely rely on God and His strength to get us through all trials and hardships, and encourage us to be bold, courageous women of God.
What Does A Strong Woman of God Look Like?
There are many women in the Bible that were on fire for God and were courageous women of faith. They had wonderful, Godly characteristics that we can learn from and adopt into our lives. Let’s take a look at some of the amazing women in the Bible that had such strong faith in God.
Mary – Mary, the mother of Jesus, a humble and faithful woman from a young age, who was chosen by God to carry Jesus in her womb. She submitted herself to God and His Will for her life. Mary was a faithful servant who put her faith and trust in God alone.
Esther – Esther risked her life to save the Jews after discovering that Haman (the court official) convinced the King (Esther’s husband – King Ahasuerus) to write a law to persecute all of the Jews in the land. (Esther was a Jew herself, but kept her heritage hidden when she found favor with King Ahasuerus and married him).
Deborah – Deborah was an amazing military leader who led the Israelites to victory against the Canaanites (as mentioned in Judges 4). She was an obedient, fearless woman of God. Deborah was a prophetess and judge.
What are the Characteristics of a Strong Woman of God?
There are many attributes of a Godly woman in the Bible in Proverbs 31. These attributes help us understand how to become a more feminine, faithful woman, wife and mother. But there are many other characteristic in the scriptures that encourage us women to become more bold in the faith and help us to grow and mature as Christians.
These characteristics of a Godly woman include:
- Being faithful to God (Proverbs 3:5-6)
- Gentle and kind (Proverbs 31:26)
- Modest (1 Timothy 2:9-10)
- Puts God first (Matthew 6:33)
- Strong prayer warrior (Philippians 4:6-8)
- Slow to anger (James 1:19)
- Humble, meek spirit (1 Peter 3:3-4)
- Be nice and considerate of others (Ephesians 4:31-32)
- Be an example to younger women in the faith (Titus 2:3-5)
- Raise Godly children (Proverbs 22:6)
- Be a homemaker, wife, mother (Psalm 127:3)
- Be filled with joy and hope (Romans 15:13)
- No gossiping (Proverbs 11:13)
- Not be envious of others (especially other women) (Proverbs 14:30)
How To Become A Strong Woman of God
Now that we understand what a strong woman of God looks like and what the characteristics are of one, let’s now take a look at how to become a bold, strong, faithful woman of faith.
-
She Spends Time With God Each Day
Matthew 6:33 – “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you”
Spending time with God each day is going to help you grow and mature in the faith. As you study the Bible, pray each day, and do things to glorify God, you are going to become a stronger, more courageous woman of God.
2. She Gets Her Strength From God
Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”
As Christians, we will go through many trials and tribulations. This Christian walk/life is not an easy one. But thankfully, God gives us His strength to endure all hardships. You rely on the Lord for His strength and guidance to get you through all things.
3. She Receives Wisdom and Understanding from the Lord
James 1:5 – “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him”
The wisdom that we get from this world doesn’t even amount to the incredible wisdom and knowledge we can receive from The Lord. The Bible is filled with amazing answers to so many of life’s questions. King Solomon was one of, if not, the wisest man to ever live, and his wisdom came from God. He wrote over 3000 proverbs and 1000 songs. People from all over the place would travel just to visit King Solomon and hear his wisdom.
We don’t know what the future has in store for us; only God does. That is why we lean on The Lord for understanding in all things.
4. She is Humble (not filled with pride)
James 4:10 – “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up”
You do not want to be humbled by The Lord. It is better that we humble ourselves before God has to. Pride just gets in the way of things. It makes us feel like we know better or that we don’t need to turn to God for help. But we aren’t better than God. We need Him each and every day, no matter what.
5. She Has a Repentant Heart
1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”
When you do wrong, it is so important to confess your sins to God and have a repentant heart. You want to be able to stand correction from Him and be able to work on any kind of sins that are bringing you down or dragging you away from The Lord.
Whenever I mess up, how ever big or small, I always turn to The Lord and ask for Him to forgive me. I truly want to change and not fall back into those kinds of sins (for example: my struggle with anxiety).
6. She Shows the Love of Christ Towards Others
John 13:34 – “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another”
We represent the body of Christ. We are the light of Christ shining in the darkness in this world. We must represent Him in all aspects of our lives. It is so important to be kind and loving towards one another, especially our neighbors. Everything we do must be in love.
7. She Does God’s Will In Her Life
Psalm 143:10 – “Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness”
Surrender yourself to God and allow Him to guide you on the right path in your life. There is nothing that you can choose to do yourself that is better than the plans and purpose God has for you.
You may have run the show in the past before you got saved, but now, you want to do God’s Will in your life. He knows what is and isn’t best for you.
8. She Glorifies God Each Day
1 Corinthians 10:31 – “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God”.
In all that you do, let it be to glorify God. We were created to serve and please Him.
9. She Sets Up Biblical Boundaries
Biblical boundaries are so important for us to set up as Christians, especially as women. We can still love one another and do righteously in our lives, but we can also set up boundaries, too. Just because we are Christian, doesn’t mean that others can walk all over us, use us or treat us with disrespect. Read more here on how to set up Biblical boundaries in your life.
10. She Does Not Dwell on the Past/Mistakes
Isaiah 43:18-19 – “Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert”.
This is one thing that I have struggled with a lot over the years. There are so many things in the past that I regretted doing and saying. But I cannot live in the past anymore – because the past IS the past. We must live in the present and not be afraid of the future either. Live each day for God, glorifying Him and doing everything you can to serve and please Him only. Be intentional with the time you have and the things that you choose to do (and say). Each day is a blessing from God, and we should live life knowing exactly that.
11. She is Fearless
Proverbs 31:25 – “Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come”
A strong woman of God is fearless. She isn’t afraid or worried about anything because she serves a powerful God who will always be there for her, protect her and look after her. She isn’t worried about what might happen in the future, or concerned about the unknown.
12. She Loves and Accepts Herself for Who God Created Her To Be
Matthew 22:39 – “And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself”
A major struggle that women have is loving and accepting themselves for who they are. They struggle with their looks, appearances, identity, personality, and so on and so forth. But a woman of God chooses to love and accept herself for how God created her. She sees herself the same way that God does.
We are all fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. He did not make any mistakes when He made you. God loves you.
13. She Encourages Other Women
Titus 2:3-5 – “The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed”
Whether you are a young Christian, or an older one, a babe in Christ or someone who is more mature in the faith, you still set out to encourage other of women of faith. We must set an example to the younger generations – whether it is those who are younger in the Lord or mothers who must set a good example for their children.
In Titus 2 we see that older ladies of the Church set an example for the younger women. The older ladies would teach the younger women in the Church how to love their husband, be sober, love their children, be a homemaker, obedient, submissive and not blaspheme the word of God.
14. She Has a Powerful Prayer Life
John 15:7 – “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you”
Having a powerful prayer life is going to change things. You are going to live such a more encouraging and exciting life as a Christian, knowing full well that we serve an amazing, all-mighty, powerful God who can do all things. God hears and answers our prayers, He looks after us, takes care of us, protects us and guides us on the right path. He is always there for you and watching over you each day. God is omnipotent!
15. She Wears the Full Armor of God
Ephesians 6:10-18 – “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”
Spiritual warfare is inevitable as a Christian. But when you put on the full armor of God each day, you will win battles against the principalities and rulers of darkness. When you quote scripture to the devil and his demons, you are telling the devil NO, you have no power or place in your life. We are children of God and belong to The Lord only.
Study the scriptures, and read them out aloud when the devil is trying to tempt you into sin, or putting negative thoughts in your head. Shut him down.
