How To Strengthen Your Faith In God
The story of David and Goliath has been on my mind lately. It is such a powerful story because Goliath was an absolute beast; no one could defeat him. He was a GIANT!
David was only 15 years old when he came to face Goliath. He went in to fight Goliath with only his sling and a rock. But that wasn’t all!
He also had tremendous faith in God.
And it was through his faith in God that gave him the strength and the victory.
God isn’t going to put us in situations that we cannot handle. He isn’t going to give us weight that we cannot carry.
This is why we need to completely trust God and put all of our faith in Him. He is the only one who can get us through everything that we face in our lives. God is the only one who will protect us and guide us in the trials and hardships we go through. He knows what is best for us and what we can and cannot handle.
So let’s take a look at the different ways that we can strengthen our faith in God:
-
Strengthen Your Faith In God By Studying The Word Daily
First and foremost, we need to study and read the Word of God daily. We must fill up with His Word, study it, understand it, memorize it, because it is one of the most powerful weapons that you will have when you are going through spiritual warfare. It is also going to help you strengthen your faith in God because you are learning more about who He is and what He has written for us to know.
The Bible is meant to be bread for daily use, not cake for special occasion.
We need to spiritually nourish ourselves with the Bible.
2. Stay In Prayer
Another powerful weapon that we have is prayer. Prayer is the direct form of communication between ourselves and God. It allows us to communicate with Him, and there is nothing that we cannot say to God. He already knows everything. Prayer also allows us to strengthen our faith in God because we are connecting with Him often and growing in our relationship with Him.
3. Put On The Armor Of God
In Ephesians 6:10-18, the Bible tells us to put on the armor of God so that we can stand up against the darkness. The armor of God consists of “…your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”.
By putting on the armor of God daily, we are putting our faith and trust in God when it comes to fighting against the spiritual wickedness and darkness in this world, and is therefore going to strengthen our faith in Him.
4. Know Where You Strength Comes From
In order to fight against the spiritual wickedness and darkness in this world, we need to understand where our strength comes from. God gives us the strength we need to endure all hardships and trials that we face. God gave David the strength to defeat Goliath. We must have faith and know that God is always going to be there for us and will provide us with the strength that we need.
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13).
5. Strengthen Your Faith In God By Fighting The Battles In Your Mind
There is more than just a spiritual battle that we battle in this world; there is also a battle inside our minds. It is a difficult battle for many, especially for those who suffer with more anxiety and fear. The devil tries to mess with us and get through to us in our minds by putting negative thoughts in our heads.
If we entertain those thoughts, they end up getting worse, and we become more anxious, afraid, depressed and so on. We start listening to the wrong voice and might even felt encouraged to do things because of this. This is why it is so important to fight the battle in our mind, to cast down those imaginations, cast out those negative thoughts, and to fill our minds with the love of Christ and word of God daily.
“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” (2 Corinthians 10:5).
6. Surround Yourself With Those On The Same Path As You
Another way to grow and mature in the faith is to surround ourselves with others who are on the same path as us. When we meet people who have the same beliefs as us, and we click on that spiritual level, it encourages us to strengthen our faith. Having fellowships with others is such a fantastic way to meet like-minded Christians as well.
7. Practice Fasting
Have you ever fasted before? Do you know what it means to fast? Fasting can be done in various different ways. One of the ways I have done it in the past is to only have bread and water. I did it for two or three weeks straight. I read the Bible daily, and it just helped me so much. Not only is fasting a health benefit, but it is also benefits you spiritually too.
Oftentimes when people want to get an answer on something such as a potential partner to marry, they want to seek confirmation from God. They will fast to get closer to God and find out what He has to say.
8. Strengthen Your Faith In God By Serving Others
In addition to serving and pleasing God, we are also called to serve others. The Bible says in 1 Peter 4:10 – “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God”.
Jesus wants us to love and serve others. He sets the perfect example for this in Matthew 20:27-28. When we serve others, it is going to help show us the purpose and reason for why we were created. Our hearts will be fuller and we will feel so much better about ourselves too.
9. Know Who You Are In Christ
Do you know who you are? Where your identity lies? You are a child of God (Galatians 3:26). You are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God (Psalm 139:14). You are God’s creation (Colossians 1:16). Understanding and knowing who you are in Christ, knowing your worth, is going to help you grow closer to God and become more faithful towards Him.
Jesus thought of you when He died on the cross for your sins. You are worth it.
Also learn that there are things that you should stop doing in order to grow closer to God such as these important things here.
10. Fear No Evil
The Bible says “do not be afraid” 365 times. That is a reminder for each day to not be afraid. God doesn’t want us to be afraid in this world; He only wants us to fear Him.
“And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10:28).
When we let go of all of our fears and anxieties, it helps us to strengthen our faith and trust in God even more because we know that He is always there for us. God is our provider and our protector. As long as we stand by Him and follow/obey Him, we will come out victorious.
“Fear though not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yeah, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness” (Isaiah 41:10).
11. Preach To Your Children
If you are a mother (or father), you have the special gift to be able to teach your children the truth about God and His creation of this world and everything in it. It is up to you to determine whether or not your children will be raised right in The Lord, or be taught and influenced by the world.
I have a four year old daughter, and I preach the gospel to her often. I tell her all about Jesus, God, Heaven, hell, God’s creation, what happens when you die, how to be saved and so on. If I am not teaching her the truth about these things, then she is going to be led astray and the devil will show her the lies of this world.
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).
12. Know That You Are Not Alone
You are not alone in this world. Some days may be harder than others, but please know that God is always there for you. He is omnipresent. When we know this and believe this, our faith grows stronger. When we know that God is always with us, is listening to us, and hearing our prayers, we become more confident in our faith, and more joyous in our Lord.
