Life Lessons From Eve: Women In The Bible Series
I want to start a new series on my blog about different life lessons you can learn from women in the Bible. This is going to be called Life Lessons from Women In The Bible Series, and I thought that the first woman I should talk about is the first woman who was ever created: Eve. The story of Eve is found in the Book of Genesis and is known as the “mother of all living”. She is the first woman who God created (from Adam’s rib), and therefore the first mother (to Cain and Abel plus others) too.
We all know the story of God creating the world in just 6 days in Genesis 1 which includes creating the first man on Earth, called Adam. The story goes that God created absolutely everything in this world, including all of the animals and plants in a space of 6 full 24-hour days, and on the 7th day, He rested.
God’s Creation
Adam was created in the image of God (just like all of us are) and was giving dominion over all the animals upon the earth (Genesis 1:26-28). God created Adam from the dust of the ground, and breathed life into his nostrils (Genesis 2:6-7).
God created the Garden of Eden, a place where Adam could reside, which had every tree that God created, growing in that garden, including the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. He commanded Adam to eat freely from every tree in the garden EXCEPT from the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:8-17).
The creation of woman: Eve
When God saw Adam alone in the Garden of Eden, He decided to create a help-meet (partner) for him, so that Adam wouldn’t be alone (Genesis 2:18). So God got to work. He put Adam in a deep sleep and removed one of his ribs which was used to help created the first woman on earth (Genesis 2:21-22). Adam called her a woman because she was taken out of man (Genesis 2:23).
Adam and Eve were together and became one flesh. They were both naked living in the Garden of Eden and were not ashamed (because they were without sin and had no knowledge of their nakedness as being a shame).
Temptation in the Garden
This is where the story gets more interesting. There was a serpent in the Garden of Eden (which was the devil in disguise) who convinced Eve that she could eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, even though God warned them not to. Eve had told the serpent that if she was to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, she would die (because that’s what God had told them – and it’s true!) (Genesis 3:1-5).
The serpent had convinced Eve that if she ate the fruit, she would not die, but rather, her eyes would be opened and she would become as gods – knowing good and evil. And what does Eve do? She took the fruit and ate it, then she gave some to her husband, Adam to try (Genesis 3:6).
What happens next? Well, they ate the fruit and started to notice that they were naked (like it became a problem!) and so they sewed some fig leaves together to cover themselves. God knew something was up and He called out to Adam, but he and his wife were hiding from the Lord. Adam ended up explaining himself by stating that they were afraid because they were naked, and that they did in fact eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil – the very same tree that God told them NOT to eat from. Adam said that Eve gave him the fruit to eat, and Eve had said that the serpent beguiled (deceived) her (Genesis 3:7-13).
Because of this, God brought a curse to the serpent, Adam and Eve. The curse to the serpent to go on his belly and suffer enmity of mankind, a lifetime of hard labor followed by death for the man, and the pain of childbirth and submission to her husband, for the woman (Genesis 3:14-19). Adam and Eve committed the very first sin on this Earth and as a result, caused all of mankind to live under this curse.
What are some life lessons from Eve we can learn?
Life Lessons from Eve:
-
Never disregard, doubt or disobey God’s Word
Always know and trust that God’s Word is true. Never disregard, doubt or disobey His Word. God told Adam and Eve to NOT eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and what did they do? They disobeyed Him and His Word, doubted what He had said and had total disregard for His commandments.
2. Always put your faith and trust in God alone
Always put your faith and trust in God alone, and not in this world or anyone or anything else. When we follow God and do His Will in our lives, great things will happen.
3. Do not entertain the devil
We, as Christians, are in a spiritual warfare. The devil is working overtime to whisper lies in your ears, and discourage you with negative thoughts and feelings in the mind. He will find any way possible to try and deceive you, discourage you, and drag you down with him. The closer you get to God, and the more you do for Christ in your life, the angrier Satan gets because he wants you to be all caught up in sin; he wants to drag you down to hell with him. This is why you should NEVER listen to the devil or entertain any of the negative thoughts or feelings. Cast down those imaginations in the name of Jesus!
5. Stop controlling things in your life
When we try to do things our way, or take control of things in our lives, it won’t work out. We need to give it all to God and allow Him to guide us on the right path. “Those who leave everything in God’s hands will start to see God’s hands in everything”.
6. God does not lie
God does not lie. Lying is a sin and God does not sin (Numbers 23:19; Titus 1:2; Hebrews 6:18). He warned Adam and Eve about the consequences to eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God said if you eat the fruit, you will die. Did He lie? Nope. A curse was brought upon men which was death.
7. God knows what is best for you
God will ALWAYS know what is best for you. He created you! He knows every single thing about you: past, present and future. Trust Him (Proverbs 3:5-6; Romans 8:28).
8. Satan is the father of lies
From this story in Genesis, we can clearly see that Satan is the father of lies. The devil got straight into tempting and deceiving Eve the first moment he got (John 8:44).
9. Stay vigilant against the attacks of the devil
As I have said before, we are in a spiritual battle against the devil and his demons. We need to stay vigilant and put on the full armor of God so that we stand firm in the Lord and protected against the attacks from the devil (Ephesians 6:10-18).
10. Sin separates us from God
When Adam and Eve sinned, they hid themselves from God. This clearly shows that sin does in fact separate us from God. When we do the wrong thing, we want to hide; we feel ashamed. This is why it is important to stay in prayer, confess our sins to God and believe that His grace is sufficient and enough (Isaiah 59:1-4; Romans 6:23).

More Important Life Lessons From Eve:
11. Men are to be the leaders in the household
After the fall of mankind in the garden, God put a curse on man, woman and the serpent. Men are to be the leaders in the household. The Bible says in Genesis 3:16 that they shall rule over their wives. Men need to be strong, vigilant, and willing to make important decisions for his family. When Eve ate the fruit, he gave some to Adam to try, and instead of stopping Eve and himself, he ate the fruit too. Adam wasn’t deceived; he knew better. But he listened to his wife, who was deceived by the devil.
This is why men need to step up in the homes and make sure bad decisions aren’t made and everything is standing strong against the devil and his attacks (1 Corinthians 11:3; 1 Peter 3:7).
12. Women are to submit to their Husbands in the home
Women are to submit to their husbands in the homes which means that they need to acknowledge that they are the leaders. Eve was the one who was deceived by the devil, not Adam (1 Timothy 2:14). God created these separate roles for a reason, and what happened in the Garden of Eden is a perfect reason for that (Ephesians 5:22-33).
13. You will reap what you sow
You cannot expect to sin, hide it from God, and have no consequences for your actions (Hebrews 4:13-15). God banished Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. They were punished for their sin. And so will we. God will chastise us where need be, when we are in sin.
14. God will have mercy
The good news is that God is merciful. God shows us His love and forgiveness to those who repent. His most sincere form of mercy is when He sent His one and only son Jesus into the world to become the sacrificial lamb (the perfect sacrifice for the sins of the whole world). God was merciful to Adam and Eve after they had sinned. He forgave them and clothed them with animal skin (Ephesians 2:4-5; Hebrews 4:16; 1 John 1:9; Psalm 86:5; 1 Peter 1:3).
15. God will redeem you
To be redeemed by God means to be delivered from sin. Through the sin that Eve committed, God established a plan of redemption through Jesus Christ. The fall of mankind as shown in the story of Adam and Eve is the very reason why humans were in need of a Savior. The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus gives us a chance of redemption to those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Our sins will be forgiven and washed away with the blood that Jesus shed on the cross for us (Ephesians 1:7; Galatians 2:20; Colossians 1:14; Psalm 111:9; Isaiah 44:22; Psalm 130:7).
16. There is a purpose and plan for your life
God has created every single one of us with a purpose and plan in our lives. God created Eve to be the first woman on Earth and the mother of us all as she was the first woman to have children. This was God’s desire for her, and He has many desires for your life too! All you have to do is put your faith and trust in God alone, and do His Will in your life (Proverbs 3:5-6; Romans 8:28).
17. We are made anew in Christ
When we are saved, we become born-again and are a new creation unto God. We have been made anew in Christ Jesus. We have this chance to start again; a fresh start to our lives as we walk in the spirit and deny the desires of the flesh (2 Corinthians 5:17; John 3:3).
18. We cannot hide from our Maker
There is nothing that we can do that God does not know about. We cannot hide anything from Him. Adam and Eve thought that they could hide from God once they had sinned, but we learn that nothing is hidden from Him. We have to own up to our mistakes; confess our sins to God (Jeremiah 23:24; Hebrews 4:13-15).
19. God will choose a wonderful spouse for you!
If you want to get married, then let God guide you to choosing the right spouse for you. He created Eve for Adam and He has already created someone for you too! Someone who can lead you, encourage you and support you (Proverbs 18:22).
20. You can only choose one side
You have a choice to make in this world: either live in this world and essentially worship the devil, or take up your cross and follow Jesus. Satan tempted Eve in the garden and convinced her that she could become a god if she ate the fruit. She listened to the lies of the devil and believed them, rather than listening to God and obeying His Word only. Once she realized the mistake that she made, and was kicked out of the garden, she needed to get right with God and not continue to be deceived by the devil (Matthew 6:24).
21. God’s Commandments are important
This is why God’s commandments are so important. He established them all for a reason. The two greatest commandments that Jesus spoke about in the New Testament are to: love God with your heart, body and mind and to love your neighbor as yourself. These two golden rules set the foundation for following the rest of God’s commandments because if you love God and you love your neighbor, you wouldn’t want to disobey God and be caught up into sin. You would want to live a life that is pleasing to God and honors Him in all that you do (Matthew 22:34-40).
Life Lessons From Eve: Summary
There are so many wonderful life lessons from Eve that you can learn. It is such a powerful story because it shows how easy the devil can try and trick you and deceive you, but it also shows us our loving, merciful and just God is. If we repent and confess our sins to God, He will forgive us and show us mercy. There will be consequences for our actions of course, just like how Adam and Eve were kicked out of the garden, but God also shows how just He is when he cursed the serpent to crawl on its belly for the rest of its days. He also put enmity between the serpent and Eve.
The moral of the story is to follow God, obey His Word and when you fall short, ask God forgiveness. Do not pay any attention to the devil and his tricks, and continue to live a life that glorifies God and follows His plans and purpose for you in your life.
God Bless.
